Kitchen Table

My wife wanted a new kitchen table.

We scoured countless kitchen table images online, drawing inspiration from the best elements of different designs. The goal was to create a table that not only looked great but also withstood the daily hustle and bustle of a large family. Using SketchUp, we made several models to accomplish this.

We chose a dark walnut stain, which was a family decision, imparting a rich, warm hue that beautifully enhances the grain patterns and complements our home’s aesthetic. Knot holes were filled in with black epoxy resin.

To enhance both the functionality and the visual appeal of the table, we incorporated breadboard ends. These not only add a classic touch but also play a vital role in preventing the wood from warping, ensuring the table remains sturdy and beautiful for years to come.

We designed the tabletop to be removable, making it easier to transport and reassemble whenever needed.

The base of our table is constructed using all-wood joinery techniques, which provide exceptional stability and durability. This method gives the table a seamless, elegant look that modern fasteners simply can’t match.

To complete this already beautiful table, we will be designing benches to replace our chairs.
